Divide Growing Narrow.

With the recent awareness of our financial markets condition, it serves as an indicator that there may be a narrowing of the divide between "Wall Street" and "Main Street", as the media calls it. If we could glance back into our history for a moment, since the passing and implementation of NAFTA, we have seen, just as Ross Perot predicted we would, a sucking of jobs exiting the US. Industries have taken their products out of the US into Mexico, India and other countries where their goods and services could be produced for less money. The problem with that is, when industry leaves, so do the jobs. We have been led to believe that NAFTA would be good for our country, but where is that good? From my perspective, I have seen no benefit to our local economy, all that I can point my finger to is the loss of several textile and manufacturing operations in our area. Now "Wall Street" could be feeling some side affects from their "NAFTA", that huge investments that other countries have made into our financial system could soon leave because of the volatility and uncertainty in our markets, then the huge financial corporations will follow the money and so will the jobs. The great divide between "Wall Street" and "Main Street" will grow narrow, maybe then will our country's leaders begin to see all is not well with our economy and has not been for some time now. Maybe an effort will be made to remove the corporate tax so that businesses and industry would begin to return to the US, creating jobs and stimulating our economy and giving our youth hope that they one day could have a promising career...while navigating through a financial meltdown would be difficult, far be it from us to not be willing to endure it for the sake of our future and generations to come. It may be a necessary process to bring our people together..it is tough times that shaves away pride and bitterness, it is tough times that restores humility and it is humility that allows us to put the good of others before ourselves. At that point, we can become an effective people.
