Gas & Politics

I don't what has irritated me more of late, the constant childish bickering of our Presidential candidates or the fact that gas prices have risen yet again. Toward the end of last week, even before Hurricane Ike made landfall, I get two calls shortly after 8pm that "hey, better get gas tonight, its going to hit $5". I thanked the callers and resumed watching the overkill of political news coverage, only to see my wife hitting the driveway to embark on a gas run. She made the rounds to several of the local convenience stores until she found one that was not overrun with fellow gas hunters, fortunate for me, I filled my tank in Dillon earlier in the day and before the seemingly fabricated shortage of gas hit the "grape vine". I find myself asking myself, [only because I trust my own advice] is the oil industry creating anxiety to maximize profits and are the Presidential candidates trying to "out bicker" each other in order to harness the most media attention in hopes that it will translate into votes come November? Are the oil companies and candidates working together to draw attention too, and away from each other as needed? Maybe after November, things will settle a bit and we can begin to direct our focus on things of importance, like "fishing and more fishing".
